MVMT Physical Therapy

Are you suffering from foot & ankle pain in
New York City?

Our foot is comprised of 26 bones and even more joints, making it an incredible machine. The ankle is often a silent culprit in many movement dysfunctions. Much of what happens at your ankle, knee and hip is dictated by your foot. Restrictions in the ankle can limit a squat, make descending stairs difficult, and result in knee or hip pain. Old ankle sprains also have a way of coming back to haunt us.

Foot or Ankle Pain Got You Sidelined?

There are many causes of foot & ankle pain:

• Sudden change in activity
• Footwear
• Overtraining
• Improper exercise technique
• Aging
• Dysfunctional running technique
• Prior or current trauma

And that’s to name just a few. Sometimes, you know exactly why you’re having the symptoms you’re having. And sometimes, it’s not clear why you’re having foot or ankle pain, or what caused it. But it becomes clear – the impact on your life is significant.

Foot & ankle pain has a way of sneaking up and sabotaging your life. Suddenly, the simplest of activities in your daily life become challenging: walking to work, navigating stairs, or even just squatting to pick something up. And all of those things that you really enjoy – like running, biking, playing tennis, lifting in the gym, or dancing? They become unimaginable. But it’ll go away, right?

Sound Familiar?

Foot & ankle pain can sometimes be easy to ignore, until it’s impossible to ignore. We often hear “I’ve just been living with this pain”. So, some questions come to mind:

“How long has your pain been going on?”

And…

“What have you done for your pain before now?”

The answers may sound familiar. Many people have been dealing with their foot & ankle pain for months and years. Years! And what have they done for it? Most often: Nothing. But it stands to reason: If you Do Nothing you’ll Get Nothing. Maybe the pain “wasn’t that bad”, or it went away on it’s own before – but it’s just not going away now.

What Is This Costing You?

AboFor some, it’s the fear of not knowing what it will cost to have your knee pain addressed. However, the greater question is – “What is it costing you to NOT fix it?”. What is it costing you in lost mobility, extra days off from work, decreased productivity? Is it costing you time away from your family, lost time playing with the kids? Or are you still paying for your gym membership, unable to workout or go to class?

We understand you may be afraid of surgery, or living a life dependent on taking pills. But what if you just took 5 minutes each day to try one of the tips in our free guide – Abnolish Ankle Pain? What if one exercise made you feel 10% better? What if you could meet with a Doctor of Physical Therapy and get some questions answered? Aside from our guide, we also offer a free 30-minute “No-Sweat” Discovery Visit to do just that.

What are the symptoms of foot & ankle pain?

Foot and ankle pain can present itself in various ways, depending on the underlying cause. One of the most common symptoms is a dull or sharp pain that may occur in specific areas, such as the heel, arch, or ankle joint. This pain can be constant or intermittent, often worsening with activity and alleviating briefly with rest. Swelling and tenderness are also frequent symptoms, indicating inflammation or injury to the soft tissues, such as ligaments, tendons, or muscles. In some cases, bruising may accompany these symptoms, particularly after a traumatic injury like a sprain or fracture.

What is our approach to fixing foot & ankle pain?

At MVMT, we specialize in dance medicine, working extensively with dancers of all ages and abilities. We’ve seen many cases involving feet and ankles, both with pedestrians and runners, so we truly understand how foot and ankle pain can impact daily life. In a city like New York, you walk a lot, and it’s hard to avoid issues with your feet and ankles. If you have foot and ankle pain, even basic activities like walking, going up and down stairs, or getting out of bed in the morning can be painful.

For higher-level athletes, performing activities like running, dancing, or jumping rope – anything that involves more athletic movements – can be particularly difficult when dealing with foot and ankle pain. You may have already tried various solutions, such as taking painkillers, using wraps, taping, cupping, or acupuncture, but still have trouble addressing the root cause of the pain.

Here at MVMT, we focus on getting to the root of what’s causing your foot and ankle issues. What sets us apart is our hands-on approach. We understand that feet and ankles are complex, and you can’t simply exercise your way out of pain. Since the foot and ankle form the foundation for the entire body, we prioritize hands-on work in that area. We focus on improving stability and balance and then continue to load your entire system with exercises to strengthen and integrate your foot and ankle with the rest of your body. This way, you can return to doing the things you love.

If this sounds like you and you’ve been struggling with foot and ankle pain, give us a call – we truly believe we can help you.
